Climate Action Plan: Get informed, take action

E-mail Print PDF

Polar Bear

Unfortunately, from the global perspective, 2009 didn’t end on such a high note with the utter failure of the Copenhagen Conference to achieve anything of significance in combatting the climate crisis. As the new year progresses, Oakvillegreen will continue to move forward with our Climate Action Plan and keep you informed about what you can do personally, and what you can do as an advocate, to push our federal politicians to take action on this most urgent of issues.

Below are some websites to help inform you and give some ways to take action.

http://tcktcktck.org Campaign to get action at the Copenhagen Conference. Has a petition to sign and features videos, stories and updates on the urgency of the Climate Crisis.

www.kyotoplus.ca Sign the petition at this site which is home to a Canadian public engagement campaign to support an urgent solution to the global warming crisis.

www.onelesstonne.ca Gives you 20 actions you can take to cut your greenhouse gas emissions and provides a calculator that shows you how much your emissions will be reduced and how much money you will save.

www.davidsuzuki.org This website provides the best all-round information on reducing your carbon footprint, offsets, green living, taking action and more.

www.pembina.org This website contains information on green economics, sustainable communities, communicating about Climate Change and so much more.

Join Oakvillegreen Conservation Association – over the next few years we will be implementing our Climate Action Plan and teaching our members, as well as other grassroots community groups, how to become more effective advocates. Move from unease to action. Learn leadership, fight despair and be able to say you are ready to meet the biggest challenge in human history with creativity, optimism and a willing heart. Download a picture of your child or grandchild at the Environmental Defence website to remind our politicians that they must protect our children’s future by taking meaningful action on the Climate Crisis at:

David Suzuki has a campaign to get Canadians to call Stephen Harper. He encourages you to videotape yourself while making the call and submitting it to his website. There are prizes  but who needs that for encouragement? Take a minute to watch a few of the videos and then make your own. Better yet, have your children call. It’s a good exercise in direct democracy and, hopefully, listening to the voices of the children will make him realize their future counts more than the fortunes of the oil industry.
