______________________________________________________________________________________

Are you inspired by the beauty of Oakville’s urban forest? If so, use your creativity to capture it in story, song, verse or photograph.

Our theme this year is: “Our Future Forest”.

This year, along with awards for people, businesses and schools that are helping to create a healthier, expanded urban forest in Oakville, the Urban Forest Awards will also celebrate those who commemorate our valuable trees in short stories, songs, poems or photographs.

For the past two years, Oakvillegreen Conservation Association and the Town of Oakville have teamed up to sponsor an annual Heritage Tree Hunt and Photography Contest. Through this process, we have identified important local trees for our heritage tree seed collection, propagation and replanting programs.

This year, we want to celebrate the local people, businesses and schools who have worked hard to plant and preserve trees but we also want to encourage a greater appreciation of the importance of our urban forest by promoting it through Oakville’s vibrant arts.

The 2009 Nomination Phase has been extended until Friday, December 4th.

Contestants can submit more than one entry per category.

Judging will occur in January by a panel of local representatives from the art community.

Finalists will be recognized at the 3rd Annual Urban Forest Awards at Town Hall in March 2010. Winning contestants will receive a custom plaque and gift certificate prize.
